David Beckham Video: Watch Beckham Tackle Crazy Kid on the Pitch

David Beckham is known for three things: Abs, Victoria Beckham and his crazy ability to bend a soccer ball with his kick. Now Beckham is known for his open field tackling. In the middle of a game, some idiot kid came out onto the field and attempted to evade security. I can’t be clear on what his full intent was, but he managed to skirt security for a number of seconds. But as he made his way toward Beckham, the international soccer star thought back to those NFL games he’s watched here in the states and wrapped him up like a free safety. I must admit it was a little bit of a confidence shaker for yours truly. I played two years of glorious football in seventh and eighth grade and never made a tackle like that. Sure, I had my fair share of amazing football moments. I played offensive guard and let a record eight sacks get past me. I once went out for a pass and had it hit me in the back, and my crowning achievement was finally getting into the backfield to make a tackle and wrapping a running back who smelled and felt like he ...

Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo: Aiming for 3 Straight

Bruce Arena's Los Angeles Galaxy have another grueling week ahead of them as they take on Dominic Kinnear's Houston Dynamo on Wednesday, May 28.The Galaxy currently sit first in the league with a record of 6-2-5 (23 points). As for the Dynamo, they are third in the MLS Eastern Conference with a record of 3-3-5 (14 points). One of the players that will be looking to produce for the Galaxy is Chad Barrett, who scored the game-winner against Chivas USA on Saturday at the Home Depot Center.“It was great to score the goal tonight,” Barrett told LAGalaxy.com's Larry Morgan, “but all in all the three points is what’s important.“I did pretty much everything right [regarding the goal]. There are things I would have changed. I would have gone more to the middle of the goal and given myself two opportunities instead of just one.“As a forward you’re always taught to overcorrect and I didn’t do that. Keep in mind your momentum and I didn’t do that. Luckily the team defense really shut them down and we got a 1-0 win.”“He’s a good soccer player,” team captain Landon Donovan said. “We’ve got a number of guys on the field now who understand ...

Chester, Pa. (May 23, 2011) – Philadelphia Union forward Carlos Ruiz has been called up to join the Guatemalan national team for the upcoming 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament, which runs from June 5-25. In the match, he scored his all-time leading 42nd goal for his national team. Prior to the match against Bolivia, Ruiz had been retired from international competition since 2009.“It means a lot to me to come back to the national team after two years and play such an important tournament like Gold Cup”, said Ruiz. “We have a very good team with young talent and some international players such as Guillermo Ramirez, Marco Pablo Pappa and me. We will have the big responsibility to set up a good example for the youngsters on and off the pitch, and I’m confident we will make a difference in this tournament and in the future World Cup Qualifier." Real Salt Lake vs. FC Dallas: No Goals Allowed in the Battle of the Goalkeepers

In a Sunday evening match between two of the best goalkeepers in Major League Soccer, Real Salt Lake traveled to Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas to take on FC Dallas.Trying to change their fortunes in that stadium, Real Salt Lake came out in their "Victory Gold" uniforms that they have only used three other times in club history. Each time previously they have played to a result.Real Salt Lake has never beaten or played to a draw with FC Dallas on the road in team history, and has a 0-9-0 record.Tonight was different, however, as Real Salt Lake played to a 0-0 draw for the second week in a row. Both teams were without their star play-maker they planned to have at the beginning of the season, and it showed as neither offense could really get going.FC Dallas mid-fielder/forward David Ferreira, and Real Salt Lake mid-fielder Javier Morales are both out with significant injuries. In the first 45 minutes, Dallas held the edge in shots and attacking chances, but Real Salt Lake held the advantage in time of possession. Each team did have a good chance to score early, but each of the two best goalkeepers in major league soccer had spectacular ...

New York Red Bulls vs Houston Dynamo: Eastern Conference Foes Battle to a Draw

Houston, TX- Needing to rebound from last week's 3-2 loss to Chivas USA, the Red Bulls (4-2-4) responded with a 2-2 tie. All it took for New York was a minute to demonstrate that they weren't going to lose on Saturday night.Accepting a well-placed pass from Luke Rodgers who seconds earlier handled a long pass from Teemu Tainio, Dane Richards kicked off things for the Red Bulls when he slammed home his second goal of the season within first the 39 seconds of the game. With the score already 1-0, the Dynamo crowd was momentarily silenced.Fortunately for Dynamo fans, Brad Davis leveled the game when he converted his penalty kick in the 12th minute. From that time, the game was even until forward Koke broke stalemate in the 82nd minute knocking in his first goal of the season off the rebound of Geoff Cameron's header.Just as it appeared that the Dynamo (3-3-5) was going to give their 25,314 fans at Robertson Stadium the victory, Medhi Ballouchy's headed in a spectacular equalizer in stoppage time off a Joel Lindpere corner kick. With virtually little time to mount a game-winning goal, the game resulted in a 2-2 draw. While ...

LA Galaxy’s Chad Barrett, David Beckham Silence Chivas USA 1-0

Bruce Arena's Los Angeles Galaxy shut out Robin Fraser's Chivas USA 1-0, thanks to a textbook goal from Chad Barrett via the English magic man known as David Beckham.Seriously folks, this story of deal is becoming old hat for a certain team in blue and gold. Now contrary to what people believe, LA vs. Chivas is still Major League Soccer's derby. Or, for you noble Cascadiaphiles (yes, I'm talking to you in the Pacific Northwest), this is Major League Soccer's first derby. See? I'm a nice guy to you lot, too.Unfortunately, sad to say, this is becoming more like a one-team race. I repeat, a one-team race.Zoom zoom.Chivas USA had, I believe, two or three opportunities to get one through the line. But when you can't break through the chaos in your attacking third, and you even have a shot hit the post...mercy, you will not gain any ground on the rivals that continue to make this derby more and more decisive. Now, even though the Manchester Derby is longer and more storied, I think it draws parallels to the Honda Superclasico. They involve two teams from the same town, and the two cities are sister cities. (Yes, you can look ...

Thierry Henry Revival Is Key for Red Bulls in Their MLS Cup Quest

Following last year's World Cup, the New York Red Bulls made two massive acquisitions that helped to change the face of Major League Soccer. Those midsummer moves came in the form of the signing of Rafa Marquez and Thierry Henry, both of whom played for Barcelona the season before and found themselves out of favor with Pep Guardiola. In the case of Marquez, he was able to recapture his prior success with the Red Bulls and never seemed to have any problems adapting to the style of MLS.But in Henry's case, he was unable to recapture his old form, scoring just two goals in 12 matches and was unable to score in the playoffs as the Red Bulls were knocked out by the San Jose Earthquakes. However, Henry's play started to be poor since the infamous hand ball against Ireland in the UEFA World Cup playoff, and continued on throughout the remainder of his season with Barcelona and for France in the World Cup.After last season, many people wondered if Henry had anything left in him and with players such as Juan Agudelo and Tm Ream around him, how well would he be able to produce for the Red Bulls in the 2011 season.During the ...
