New York Red Bulls Tie the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-1 at Red Bull Arena
Harrison, NJ - On the evening before the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, both the New York Red Bulls organization and the 19,684 in attendance took a moment of silence to honor the families & victims of the 9/11 attacks. With the Red Bulls players wearing their 9/11 Memorial armband and the fans demonstrating their patriotism as they waved their United States flags, it was impossible to ignore the heavy atmosphere at Red Bull Arena on Saturday night. While the memories of Sept. 11 were in the minds of many in attendance, the South Ward did a marvelous job in keeping everyone's spirits up with their chanting and enthusiasm.Unfortunately for the South Ward, and every Red Bulls fan in attendance, they had to settle for another tie. Playing against the worst team in Major League Soccer, the Red Bulls needed a Juan Agudelo goal in 68th minute of the match in order to tie the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-1 at home. For a team who are more than likely to miss the postseason, the Vancouver Whitecaps (4-13-10) entered Red Bull Arena as if they're the team fighting for a playoff spot. From the very beginning, the Whitecaps demonstrated that they're playing their ...11Sep/110
Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Monarcas Morelia: Deep Into the Heart of Mexico
Hear that bell? That is the sound of class in session, Mr. Robbie Keane. On Tuesday, Sept. 13 we are going on a field trip into the heart of Mexico: Morelia and the Estadio Morelia, for a CONCACAF Champions League match between Bruce Arena's Los Angeles Galaxy and Tomas Boy's Monarcas Morelia. Robbie, on Tuesday you will learn about the caliber of play from one of the most storied teams in Mexico, as well as understand the fiery environment that teams like the U.S. Men's National Team encounter on their forays south of the border. Urine bags. Chicken heads. The Spanish word for "Whore!" raining out during keeper Donovan Ricketts' goal kicks (although you already know the jist from our good friends from the Angel City Brigade and the L.A. Riot Squad). Those are just a sample of what you will be experiencing at Estadio Morelos. It will be intimidating. It will be partisan. And it will be one tear-up that is not for the faint of heart. Class dismissed. All educating aside, the Galaxy currently sit on top of Major League Soccer with a 15-3-10 record (55 points), seven clear of second-place Seattle Sounders FC.Two players that have brought ...10Sep/110

MLS: Landon Donovan Powers LA Galaxy to 1-0 Victory over Colorado Rapids
It has come to my attention that there are some increasingly visible tears in the Colorado Rapids MLS Cup title defense. While there are still five games to go for Gary Smith's Rapids, and six for Bruce Arena's Los Angeles Galaxy, Colorado may find their defense to be an Achilles heel as they stumble towards the postseason, crashing into the finish line. On Friday night at the Home Depot Center, Landon Donovan's 36th minute goal powered the Galaxy to a 1-0 victory over the Rapids, in-front of a crowd of more than 20,000 at Victoria Street. The result was payback for the 3-1 defeat the Galaxy suffered at the hands of the Rapids last year at the Toolbox. In addition, LA became the first team to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs. "We are in the playoffs and it would be nice to win the Supporters’ Shield, that’s the next objective for us," Arena told reporters after the match. "Win the Supporters’ Shield and advance out of group play in the CONCACAF Champions League, which is going to be another big challenge for us. We have those objectives in the short term and certainly we want to go after the MLS ...10Sep/110
MLS Soccer 2011: Upcoming Fixtures Could Determine DC United’s Playoff Fate
With 31 points in 24 matches, New York Red Bulls for the final playoff spot by just one point. In the next 11 days United plays Chivas USA twice, and if they hope to leapfrog NY, taking three points from these matches will be critical. The team will no doubt be chomping at the bit to get back on the pitch, as they have not suited up since a 1-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City on August 21.Of the four players called in for international duty last week, only Dwayne DeRosario and Andy Najar saw action during matches.United will need its marquee preseason addition Charlie Davies to step up in a major way from here on out. Davies came out of the gates with a force for the Black-and-Red earlier in the year, scoring eight goals for the team, but in the second half of the season his form dipped and he has not found the score sheet since June 25 against the Houston Dynamo. In addition to Davies, the team will also need a bit of luck as the injury bug has bitten them at various times throughout the year, preventing coach Ben Olsen from having his entire arsenal at his disposal. Currently ...8Sep/110

Houston Soccer: Galveston Pirates Back in Action with New Season & New League
Texas side Galveston Pirate Soccer Club are nearing the start of a brand new season this coming Sunday, as they prepare for kick off in their new league home, the Houston Football Association (HFA) in their Championship division. The Pirate side are prepped and ready for their opening match against Houston United this Sunday September 11th at Bayland L2 with a kick-off time of 9 am. Houston United are a strong team who only just missed out on promotion last year with Pirate coach Brendan Keyes saying on the Pirate website, "We are very excited about the new league and upcoming season, playing against the best teams in Texas. The guys are ready to play and look forward to the upcoming challenge. Our team are being led by long term Pirate player RJ McNair who has been with us since our inaugural season." Get out of the Way Here Comes the MLS
The Big Four—and no we are not talking about the impending college football super conferences. It's the traditional and socially accepted number of major sports in America today, MLB, NFL, NHL and NBA. Is it time for a fifth? Can America handle MLS?Before the anti-soccer crowd starts to yell and complain about how it's not American, it’s not a suggestion that we adopt it as our country’s sport, start roaming soccer gangs or slowly work back to being an English colony. I am saying it's time to accept it as a legitimate sport rather than an outsider biting at the ankles of true American sports. MLS is on its 15th-plus year and still going strong. The league is ever-expanding, adding two new teams this season and planning to add a 20th team in the near future. Our national team is growing towards international respectability and more and more of the MLS players are on top European radars. If there was ever a time to jump on the soccer bandwagon, it is now. The MLS is shedding its image of retirement center ages and starting to evolve into a place that is viable for young promising stars from around the world (as ...7Sep/110
LA Galaxy vs. Colorado Rapids: 6 Players to Watch
The Los Angeles Galaxy will take on the Colorado Rapids on September 9th at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The Galaxy sit atop the Western Conference at the moment, with 52 points in 27 games (14-10-3 record). Colorado has not been too bad themselves and are currently in fifth place in the West with 41 points (10-11-7). The Rapids are just one point behind Real Salt Lake for fourth place in the West, and are still in position to make the MLS Playoffs. This match is surely more important for Colorado, but the Galaxy will definitely fancy their chances at home, where they are undefeated this season in MLS play (eight wins, five draws). Here are the six players to watch on September 9th in Carson, California. Prediction: 2-1 Galaxy winBegin Slideshow7Sep/110
