Houston Dynamo vs. Chicago Fire: Watch All the Goals and Highlights
Major League Soccer rivals Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire took to the pitch on Saturday at Robertson Stadium in Texas, battling to a 1-1 draw in an explosive first half of action. While Chicago entered the match with little lingering hope of earning an MLS postseason berth, the home side had plenty to fight for while still desperately maintaining a position within the playoff wildcard zone in the standings. They set out to show that they meant business when it comes to achieving MLS Cup glory, applying heavy pressure in Chicago's defensive half in the early going. Their efforts paid off in the 33rd minute, when Brad Davis sent a well-placed corner kick into the box. The ball fell to the feet of Colin Clark, who buried the shot to give Houston the lead.Their offensive victory would make way for a defensive failure just 10 minutes later, as Dominic Oduro chased a through-ball that was placed brilliantly by teammate Baggio Husidic. The forward then used sheer speed to beat the defensive line and put away the equalizer. With all the opportunities enjoyed by Houston throughout the match, they surely would have hoped for a better result with the regular season finale just a couple ...3Oct/110

Colorado Rapids 1-0 FC Dallas: Watch the Goal and Highlights Here
Gary Smith’s Colorado Rapids shut out Schellas Hyndman’s FC Dallas to the tune of 1-0 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. Drew Moor was the hero for the Rapids in the 25th minute, scoring on a header from a Sanna Nyassi delivery. For Smith, it was the result of a week of smart decision making, which also resulted in a badly-needed CONCACAF Champions League victory over Isidro Metapan. “It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for a week like this. Some big decisions to make, I felt they were the right ones, and I’ve been vindicated in that with the two results that we had,” Smith told reporters after the match. “Sometimes when things are not quite going your way, you’ve got to try to do something a little bit different. “I took a little bit of a chance, of course, but I think it paid off, and paid off handsomely. We’ve ended up in a real good spot in the Champions League and today’s result covers a lot of ground." With the results, Colorado improve to 11-9-12 and sit in the middle of the MLS Western Conference with 45 points. As for struggling FC ...3Oct/110
San Jose Earthquakes 1-1 Sporting KC: Watch All Goals and Highlights Here
Frank Yallop’s San Jose Earthquakes and Peter Vermes’s Sporting Kansas City duked it out as both teams continued the chase for the 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs at Buck Shaw Stadium. Both sides played it out to a 1-1 draw as both teams left it late. Chris Wondolowski scored his 12th goal of the season thanks to a sequence that involved Steven Beitashour and Simon Dawkins in the 85th minute. However, just as the confetti was falling down, C.J. Sapong found Teal Bunbury for his eighth goal of the season. “Our first thought wasn’t ‘Oh, let’s put our heads down. The game is over,’” Bunbury told Andrew Wiebe of MLSSoccer.com. “We picked ourselves up, and we went right at them immediately. We kicked it off, C.J. did his magic and I knew that I had to take off, make a good run in behind and finish it.” "We would like to have won,” Vermes added, “but sometimes you have to battle and scrape and scrap the way we did in the first half. The bottom line is that the game is 90 minutes plus injury time. The guys did a really good job of staying in the game and ...3Oct/110

Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Red Bull New York: A Tale Of Two Cities
Bruce Arena's Los Angeles Galaxy, as it turns out, did not clinch the Major Soccer Supporters Shield on Saturday, but they do have a chance to do so on Tuesday against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. The match was postponed due to a certain hurricane named Irene. Well, there is certain to be another hurricane coming towards Harrison in the form of MLS's best team at the moment. For the Galaxy, they are playing with guns blazing, flying on the wings of a five-match win streak in all competitions. Landon Donovan leads the team in goals with 12, while midfielder David Beckham paces the G's in assists with 14. “We’ve won in all kinds of ways this year and it’s really important,” Donovan told MLSSoccer.com's Luis Bueno on Saturday after their 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake. “Come the last [CONCACAF Champions League] game against Motagua or the playoffs, if you go down a goal, you need to know how to win games. "It would have been wholly unjust if we didn’t get something out of that game. Credit to our guys for persevering and getting a great result.” “We’ve been 1-0 ...2Oct/110
MLS: Nat Borchers, Real Salt Lake Gift-Wrap 2-1 Victory for Los Angeles Galaxy
Well gee whiz, Jason Kreis. Christmas isn't until December, but you decided to turn into Santa Claus for a day. All that was missing was a red suit, a red hat and a fake beard. And with the head elf being Nat Borchers.I think the 27,000 or so fans who were at the Home Depot Center know why Kyle Beckerman, as much of a talentless hack he is, is Real Salt Lake's de facto team captain. In the 72nd minute, Borchers gave Bruce Arena's Los Angeles Galaxy a 2-1 victory. Thankfully, RSL were spared the humiliation of watching the Galaxy lift the Supporters' Shield. (Thanks for nothing, New England...) Fabian Espindola opened the scoring in the 45th minute to give the visitors the lead into the break, but Chad Barrett beat Jamison Olave in the 59th minute for an equalizer, and 13 minutes later, Fan Appreciation Night turned into Christmas Eve. While LA's defense did the work for the most part, offensively it was a different story. I can confirm one thing tonight: David Beckham still has back issues. Yeah, as if that's even news to begin with; it doesn't a rocket scientist monkey to know that back spasms have ...2Oct/110
Seattle Sounders FC: Fredy Montero Finds His Form with Playoffs on the Horizon
With the end of the MLS regular season beginning to draw near, the Seattle Sounders' designated player at the striker position, Fredy Montero, is finally beginning to find his groove—only 31 games into the season with three left to be played.Just two weeks ago, Montero was suffering through the most underwhelming season of his career thus far, with only seven goals to his name and a frustrated fanbase constantly criticizing everything he did as a result. He led the league in shots taken and shots on goal for most of the 2011 campaign, but simply found himself unable to capitalize on his opportunities.Luckily for Seattle, the Sounders have found goals from the feet of many other rave-green players. Fourteen different Sounders, in fact, have scored to help the Sounders achieve the most successful regularly season in their history so far, despite Montero's slumping production. Thanks to the club's overall success, one would expect the Colombian striker to mostly find himself free of criticism for his own performances on the pitch. But an executive decision from Seattle's managing bodies prior to the season naming Fredy Montero as one of the club's highest-paid presences in the lineup have made his failings nearly unforgivable ...1Oct/110
Houston Dynamo, Chicago Fire Battle to 1-1 Tie in MLS Action
In a match that saw the Houston Dynamo and the Chicago Fire head to the locker room at halftime tied at one-all, the fans at Robertson Stadium saw no second half scoring and that is how the game ended; Houston 1, Chicago 1. Houston is now 10-9-13 (43 pts) on the season while Chicago moves to 10-9-13 (37 pts). The Dynamo got on the board first in the 33rd minute when midfielder Colin Clark sent home a loose ball that deflected off Fire defender Jalil Anibaba and landed in the front of the net. The goal was Clark’s fourth of the season, bringing his MLB career total to 13. The Fire got even in the 43rd minute, when forward Dominic Oduro sent the ball home with a right foot strike. Midfielder Baggio Husidic was credited with the assist. That score gave Oduro his 12th of the season and 26th of his MLS career. The Dynamo had 13 shots, with six of them on goal, while Chicago managed only eight shots with five on goal. Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall recorded four saves while is counterpart for the Fire, Sean Johnson, tallied five. The Dynamo will next face Portland on Friday October 14 ...1Oct/110
