Are LA Galaxy and MLS the Right Move for Steven Gerrard After Liverpool?
Steven Gerrard has confirmed he will join LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer after he leaves Liverpool in the summer. The 34-year-old, who last week announced his departure from Anfield, will link up with Bruce Arena's team in July after the end of the current Premier League campaign. Arena is quoted by Sky Sports from an interview with the LA Times as saying: Steven Gerrard arrives in July and by then we will certainly have a plan available. He's a player of quality. I'm not concerned about how he's going to fit in with our team. We have a club now with a proven history of success. All those things go hand in hand in making LA Galaxy a very attractive team for players such as Steven Gerrard. Gerrard is following a familiar path for Premier League players. David Beckham starred for the Galaxy, while Robbie Keane is the club's main striker. But is the Liverpool midfielder making the right move?Read more MLS news on BleacherReport.com7Dec/140
LA Galaxy vs. New England Revolution: Score, Grades, Reaction from MLS Cup Final
LA Galaxy 2-1 New England Revolution (after extra time) Landon Donovan's swansong with the LA Galaxy ended in triumph, as fellow veteran Robbie Keane scored the winning goal to beat the New England Revolution at the StubHub Center in California and claim the MLS Cup. This was the last professional game for Donovan, a former United States international, and he clearly wanted to end to his glittering career on a winning note. Local boy Gyasi Zardes appeared to have helped him achieve that goal with his 52nd-minute opener. But New England Revolution refused to read the script, and Chris Tierney sent the final into extra time with a 79th-minute equaliser. Keane had not enjoyed the best of matches for the Galaxy, but with nine minutes remaining in extra time, he found space in the area to fire past Bobby Shuttleworth and win the title for Donovan and his team-mates. Donovan's final match nearly began with a dream start, as Robbie Rogers almost broke the deadlock within the opening 80 seconds of the game. The left-back pushed forward before playing a neat one-two with Donovan to open up space in the New England area. But the Revolution defence got back in numbers, and Scott Caldwell cleared. The Galaxy settled ...29Nov/140
New England vs. New York: Score, Grades and Reaction from MLS Game
New England 2-2 New York (New England win 4-3 on aggregate) Charlie Davies scored twice as New England twice came from behind to ensure their place in the MLS Cup final next weekend and ruin what could be Thierry Henry's last professional match. Tim Cahill had pulled New York back into the Eastern Conference semi-final when his 26th-minute opener made it 2-2 on aggregate. But Davies gave the home side the advantage once more three minutes before the interval in a savage psychological blow to New York. However, seven minutes into the second period, Peguy Luyindula restored New York's advantage, and the visitors looked set to build on the momentum and claim another goal to reach the final. With 20 minutes left, though, Davies headed home a tremendous Chris Tierney cross to send New England through. It was a sad end for Henry, too, with his New York contract set to end at the end of the season. Cahill came into the New York side in place of the suspended Bradley Wright-Phillips, but the big question for many of the visiting fans was whether this would be the last-ever game of Henry's career. Kevin Alston was drafted into the New England starting XI, with Chris Tierney pushing into ...23Nov/140
New York vs. New England: Score, Grades and Reaction from MLS Game
New York 1-2 New England Jermaine Jones gave New England a crucial advantage in the chase for the MLS Cup as his late winner left the New York Red Bulls to regret a host of wasted opportunities. Teal Bunbury had given the visitors a 17th-minute lead at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, but Bradley Wright-Phillips levelled 10 minutes later. However, the New York striker and his team-mates were guilty of missing a number of chances to win the match before Jones slotted home an 85th-minute winner. To add insult to injury, Wright-Phillips received a foolish yellow card for needlessly blocking New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth and will now miss the second leg at the Gillette Arena next weekend. Jones almost gave the Revolution a fourth-minute lead with a powerful close-range header, but Luis Robles was able to palm the ball away. At the other end of the field, Lloyd Sam broke clear and forced a good save from New England goalkeeper Shuttleworth. Wright-Phillips was looking for a 16th-minute penalty, but Kelyn Rowe's challenge on the New York striker was deemed legal. One minute later, though, New England went ahead. A Jones run to the right allowed Bunbury to pick up the ball, and he cut inside ...24Jul/140

Seattle Sound Jubilant Note as USMNT Captain Clint Dempsey Is Unveiled
The Seattle Sounders rolled out the red carpet in style to welcome new signing Clint Dempsey to the club. The United States captain has joined the Major League Soccer side after leaving Tottenham Hotspur following just one season with the North London club. But if the forward was in any doubt about his move to Seattle, the welcome afforded to the player by the club and almost 40,000 supporters inside CenturyLink Field will have assuaged his thoughts. The 30-year-old has cost Seattle a fee of around £6 million, according to BBC Sport, which is the same figure Spurs paid Fulham for his services just before the 2012 summer transfer window closed. Dempsey scored 12 goals in 43 appearances for Tottenham last season, but his first-team opportunities would have been limited this year following the arrival of Roberto Soldado from Valencia. Dempsey left the New England Revolution in January 2007 to join Fulham in the Premier League, and he went on to score 50 times in 84 league appearances for the Craven Cottage club. The forward was linked strongly with Liverpool and Aston Villa last summer before Andre Villas-Boas made him one of his first signings as White Hart Lane manager. Dempsey, who was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, will now link ...2Jun/130
